Pin to Paper

Hello Polkadotters,
I have another Pin to Paper project to share with you all today, well its not really Pinterest Inspired, but has been inspired by the Winter Olympics in Sochi. To tell the truth when I saw the background art work and the team clothes, I was mesmerised, It was so beautiful and colourful, and knew that It was the perfect Project for that pesky box of scrap paper that is never ending. It must also be a quilters dream design!!sochi_patchwork-692x300

A little bit of History (Adapted from the Sochi Press Release)
The Olympic patchwork quilt, developed by Bosco’s creative department and given to the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee.
There goal was to represent a diverse range of emotions and feelings, connecting concepts like Motherland, Family, Culture, Time, Olympism, Peace, Nobility, Friends, Memory, Honour, Dreams, Beauty, Freedom, Pride, Warmth, Happiness, Greatness, Reliability, Victory, Creativity, Hospitality, Creation, Future, Russia, Planet Earth. They felt that the Patchwork Quilt would represent Russia’s rich diversity in a warm, familiar and welcoming way.
In the design, every patch was infused with the history and personality of traditional crafts from each of Russia’s 89 regions: in a single tapestry we combined Uftyuzhskaya painting and Vologda lace, Gzhel and Zhostovo painting, Kubachi patterns and the flowers of Pavlo Posad shawls, Mezenskaya painting and Khokhloma, Yakutsk patterns, fabrics of Ivanovo and other distinctive Russian patterns. That is how they arrived at a modern, distinctive and unmistakeably Russian Look of the Games.
Check out the Bosco web page to see an example of each of the different crafts http://sochi2014.bosco.ru/en/

So I started cutting out different diamond patterns from the different types of scrap paper I had in the different colours that appealed to me. and got around to sticking them onto a messy canvas that needed to be covered up!!!
At this point I must point out, I had a pattern and design in my head, I even had a name picked out for the project “A Sochi Dream” but isn't that the magic of crafting, that sometimes things take a life of their own and you end up with something really different, I will share with you also my moms project, which turned out very much like the design I had envisioned, my project would turn out, and as you will see from mine, it took such a random turn that it may as well have come from some form of an outer body experience.
My Mom’s Project

and Mine
My Sochi Mind
20140221_032912
Its completed with 100 plus different size diamonds, Gesso, Gold and some Old Olive Green don’t think the camera is picking it up, but the centre diamond is covered with Crackle Paint to give it an aged look.

Pin to Paper Thursday

Hello again Polkadotters,
Two blog posts in one day, thought I would spoil you =)
For those of you who know me, know that I am a little obsessed with Pinterest!!!! So as part of the Crafty Clear-out Challenge, I thought I would use one of the Projects I had pinned for it, For those who don’t know what the Crafty Challenge is check out my previous blog from January.
I have started to use a raffle system for this so that it will be random and inspiring!!! haha. I'm using my little wheelie bin desk tidy and in it has the different shelf and drawer numbers in it along with different items to use. so for example, this draw the words Scrap box and S1 came out. So for this Challenge I need to use items from my scrap box and from Shelf 1, which I picked my A4 Papers…… Hope I am Making Sense…..
So for the last few months Pinterest has been over run with “Quilted Cards” so when i was looking at them, the first thought that came to me was WOW these would be great to use up all those Scraps of Paper that has been gathering dust in the scrap box. Again it is a very simple design and the possibilities are endless with this card. It has a feel of the Iris Folding we did last year but on a Flatter level haha.
Here is the card, If you would like me to do a Tutorial Sheet for you on this card or any of the projects I have done, Please leave me a message on here or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-polka-Dot-Craft-Club/328593203857436

The next Project challenge that came out of the Wheelie Bin for the next Months Blog is Clear white Folder (clear stamps) and the Project box…….. This will be a real adventure!!!!!!

Hearts Challenge

Good morning Polkadotters,

Hope this Blog post finds you all well and not blown away by Storm Darwin!!
Today’s Post is all about the new Irish Challenge blog “Craft for the Craic”  http://www.craftforthecraic.blogspot.ie/

Their First Challenge was to create anything with a heart on it, so I decided to give it a try…. I have created two very different cards for this Challenge

The First one is a card that has been doing the rounds on Pinterest, Its a card in the box, very simple to do, but is very effective and can be used for sooooooo many different occasions, and it folds flat for easy posting!!!!

My Second card is more vintage in design, and not sure if it will really qualify for the Challenge as it only contains half a heart…..but here's hoping…….

This months Challenge is open till the end of the month, so why not pop over and give them a Hello

New Year, New Challenges

Hello Polkadotters,
Hope this blog finds you all well and back in the swing of things after the Christmas.
In this post I will be explain my new Craft Challenge for 2014 and will be inviting you all to take part.
First of all, I have my own personal challenge, My aim will be to update this Blog at least once a month until I get into the swing of things and then the goal is to move to every two weeks with the final result to be once a week….
Now for the Craft Challenge 2014…
How many of us have stuff we have never used, bought on impulse or bought the item for a project only never to finish the project or the items wasn't right for the job. Well then this Challenge if for you…..
The Crafty Clear Out Challenge,
I know, I know…. there is that horrible word that sends shivers down your spine, but this isn't really a challenge, Its more of a use up stuff to make more room for new Items, without having to build an extension to house your stash. To do this, I will be sharing my attempts at making way through my stash. from different projects to word prompts etc. SO ARE YOU READY????
We all have different way to store our stash, from boxes to shelves to drawers and presses, so the first part is to take one of those boxes or drawer or shelf, and to use one or more items from it to create a project. Its that simple…….

(Pictures of what I'm up against haha)
So my first Project Share with you, Is from the bottom shelf and the scrap box.
It is a Mix Media Card, that I did to sent off with an ATC (artist trading Card) in it for a group called Mix Media Madness, which is a lovely group of supportive ladies from all around the world. i stumbled across this group when i was looking for inspiration and well, how to do mix media for our first “Introduction to Indian food and Mix Media Night”, night.
I have many different folders, two of which contain Die Cuts and the likes that because they are on the bottom shelf, I have forgotten I had them. when i found the Fairies, that have been hiding in my stash for well over 4 years! so I knew they had to go on the card, they are from LILY OF THE VALLEY, an English based company who have very cute items for sale,
The flowers were Die Cut on scrap paper from a flower Die and coloured using Oil Pastels

Hope you enjoy and embrace this “Challenge” and I look forward to seen what you come up with and share your creations.

I know me and the whole blogging thing, are not quite friends yet, but I hope that I will be able to upload some videos for you all, in hopes that what I find hard to explain on paper, will be better explained on video, and if not I will also include links to people who are miles better at explaining then I am =)

To kick start this, I have put together a video of the Halloween Beer Mat Mini Album we did in the October Class, Feel free to share the link with your friends and family in the crafting world =)

If you would like anything explained via video please let me know, by leaving a comment or through our email address=) our for those who have my number give me a text.

Fingers crossed that this will be better than my whole blogging experience, and that I will be able to upload more videos and projects for you all, to sit back with a cuppa and some popcorn and enjoy or laugh at…. I'm good either way

witch's brew

Good morning everyone.,
The last few weeks have been crazy,  so haven't had time to keep up with anything. Today I would like to share with you my latest project.

for this I used some scrap paper (lucky lemonade) for the prima doll stamp or as I call her my Alice.  the background paper is from my minds eye haunted collection- harlequin paper. It is so touchy feely that I didnt want to cut it up. and for the shading on the doll stamp I used spectrum nore LG2 pen.

of course when I was looking through my scrap paper box and found the paper,  lyric fm had on the music from wicked... so naturally Alice was getting a make over.....I thought I was being all original. until last night I was on pintrest and of course everyone must have been listening to the same radio station cause there were loads of different versions of this..... to many to mention. But thats my rant for the day over and done with haha.

Hope you all have a wonderful day

New Beginnings

Well, here I am, just about to start a whole new experience with blogging, well sort of new, I did at one stage of my life have a blog, but can’t seem to log into it……Think I may be asking Mr B for a bit of help with this over the weekend.

My plan for this blog is so that Polkadoters  will have a place to go……. for inspiration, I hope to put together a Creation Station with random ideas (those who know me, will know all about my random side) like for example the word is lollipop, you could come up with some ideas like this….

 Photo-0118

And who knows, If I get the hang of this, I may even do weekly spotlight on different parts of the Creation Station, as I have said at the start, this is a new beginning for me, and I hope you will join me on this new path of discovery.
