Pin to Paper

Hello Polkadotters,
I have another Pin to Paper project to share with you all today, well its not really Pinterest Inspired, but has been inspired by the Winter Olympics in Sochi. To tell the truth when I saw the background art work and the team clothes, I was mesmerised, It was so beautiful and colourful, and knew that It was the perfect Project for that pesky box of scrap paper that is never ending. It must also be a quilters dream design!!sochi_patchwork-692x300

A little bit of History (Adapted from the Sochi Press Release)
The Olympic patchwork quilt, developed by Bosco’s creative department and given to the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee.
There goal was to represent a diverse range of emotions and feelings, connecting concepts like Motherland, Family, Culture, Time, Olympism, Peace, Nobility, Friends, Memory, Honour, Dreams, Beauty, Freedom, Pride, Warmth, Happiness, Greatness, Reliability, Victory, Creativity, Hospitality, Creation, Future, Russia, Planet Earth. They felt that the Patchwork Quilt would represent Russia’s rich diversity in a warm, familiar and welcoming way.
In the design, every patch was infused with the history and personality of traditional crafts from each of Russia’s 89 regions: in a single tapestry we combined Uftyuzhskaya painting and Vologda lace, Gzhel and Zhostovo painting, Kubachi patterns and the flowers of Pavlo Posad shawls, Mezenskaya painting and Khokhloma, Yakutsk patterns, fabrics of Ivanovo and other distinctive Russian patterns. That is how they arrived at a modern, distinctive and unmistakeably Russian Look of the Games.
Check out the Bosco web page to see an example of each of the different crafts http://sochi2014.bosco.ru/en/

So I started cutting out different diamond patterns from the different types of scrap paper I had in the different colours that appealed to me. and got around to sticking them onto a messy canvas that needed to be covered up!!!
At this point I must point out, I had a pattern and design in my head, I even had a name picked out for the project “A Sochi Dream” but isn't that the magic of crafting, that sometimes things take a life of their own and you end up with something really different, I will share with you also my moms project, which turned out very much like the design I had envisioned, my project would turn out, and as you will see from mine, it took such a random turn that it may as well have come from some form of an outer body experience.
My Mom’s Project

and Mine
My Sochi Mind

Its completed with 100 plus different size diamonds, Gesso, Gold and some Old Olive Green don’t think the camera is picking it up, but the centre diamond is covered with Crackle Paint to give it an aged look.

Pin to Paper Thursday

Hello again Polkadotters,
Two blog posts in one day, thought I would spoil you =)
For those of you who know me, know that I am a little obsessed with Pinterest!!!! So as part of the Crafty Clear-out Challenge, I thought I would use one of the Projects I had pinned for it, For those who don’t know what the Crafty Challenge is check out my previous blog from January.
I have started to use a raffle system for this so that it will be random and inspiring!!! haha. I'm using my little wheelie bin desk tidy and in it has the different shelf and drawer numbers in it along with different items to use. so for example, this draw the words Scrap box and S1 came out. So for this Challenge I need to use items from my scrap box and from Shelf 1, which I picked my A4 Papers…… Hope I am Making Sense…..
So for the last few months Pinterest has been over run with “Quilted Cards” so when i was looking at them, the first thought that came to me was WOW these would be great to use up all those Scraps of Paper that has been gathering dust in the scrap box. Again it is a very simple design and the possibilities are endless with this card. It has a feel of the Iris Folding we did last year but on a Flatter level haha.
Here is the card, If you would like me to do a Tutorial Sheet for you on this card or any of the projects I have done, Please leave me a message on here or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-polka-Dot-Craft-Club/328593203857436

Hearts Challenge

Good morning Polkadotters,

Hope this Blog post finds you all well and not blown away by Storm Darwin!!
Today’s Post is all about the new Irish Challenge blog “Craft for the Craic”  http://www.craftforthecraic.blogspot.ie/

Their First Challenge was to create anything with a heart on it, so I decided to give it a try…. I have created two very different cards for this Challenge

The First one is a card that has been doing the rounds on Pinterest, Its a card in the box, very simple to do, but is very effective and can be used for sooooooo many different occasions, and it folds flat for easy posting!!!!

My Second card is more vintage in design, and not sure if it will really qualify for the Challenge as it only contains half a heart…..but here's hoping…….
